How I Kicked Booty In My First Years Of Single Parenting

Here is a little more information about me. I am a professional host for throwing a certain kind of party- A pity party. If I allow my mind to go there I can spend hours feeling bad for myself and wanting to kick myself. In my last post I wrote about How I failed in my first years of parenting.
BUT Something that is a gift from above is Infantile Amnesia. As the name suggests, people do not remember anything before the ages of between 2 and 4. So if you are a parent to a young child and are full of regrets. DON'T FRET! Chances are your child will not remember your mistakes. Brush it off and move on. As single parents we can put a lot of blame on ourselves. Now I don't like to brag BUT! There are some areas in my parenting life where I have Kicked booty! *Pats self on back*
1- I created someone who LOVES learning
I believe that education is power (which is why I got a Masters degree at 23!) so I was ADAMANT about teaching him early on. I read to him started teaching him letters before he turned 2 and up to today he will not want to sleep without reading a book. Now he asks sophisticated questions (for a 5 year old) and has AMAZING memory. I believe his great speech and memory has something to do with the fact that I was against putting him in front of the TV during his first 2 years of life (Now there were some days where my sleep came before a show but for the most part the TV was OFF)
2- I refrained from hitting him
In the African American community it is so prevalent to see children getting hit by adults BUT because of my personality and views on violence I could not see myself hitting my child. I get SO much criticism from family and friends because I don't hit my child. What I can not do is fight everyone who disagrees with my parenting style. I can just raise the best child that I can and let my outcomes speak for themselves.
3- I have a 5 year old that loves celery avocado and carrots
Who loves celery? I haven't found one person who eats it for the taste, but my baby does. Avocados, carrots, tomatoes, and yes celery can be found on his plate on any given day. I only take partial credit for this one. I'm sorry but I'm not a parent that would lay down my life for an animal. I eat meat. I love meat. I had no intention of raising a vegetarian. BUT Since he was a baby I would give him vegetables and fruit baby food and for some reason he hated meat. What child is a born vegetarian? Mine is!
4- My baby is a Jack (and Master) of all trades
My child is strong, flexible, creative, artistic and I already mentioned BRILLIANT. This is part his genetic makeup and part my intention in raising him. Since he was a baby I always bought art and creativity to whatever I was teaching him. Now I have a multi talented child. Grateful!
Sometimes we have to get off of our humble horse and boast about How we kicked some BOOTY!
